Award winner Justin Ward Weber is earning a reputation as a young emerging composer on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2010, Justin won the Orlando Philharmonic Young Composers Challenge where his composition “La Noche de Fuego” was performed and recorded by the orchestra. In 2012, his work “Clair de Lune” for string quartet was performed at the “High Score Music Festival” in Pavia, Italy. Justin spent two weeks at the Festival and studied with composers Chris Theofanedis, Dmitri Tymockzo, Amy Beth Kirsten, and Mario Garuti. He was also able to work with new music advocate and British violinist, Irvine Arditti.
Earlier this year, Justin premiered two new chamber works at Stetson University, “Crescent Moon” for flute and voice and “Opera Scene for two male voices and chamber orchestra.” Currently in his senior year as a music composition and theory major at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, Justin is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree. He studies music composition with Dr. Manuel Martinez de Murga and Dr. Sydney Hodkinson and studies piano with Tammy Miller He started studying piano at age 7 and began composing at age 16. One of his first compositions "Independence March" was written in 2009. Justin hopes to attend graduate school to hone his compositional skills and study with great composers.
